Victoria’s iconic voluntary wildlife conservation initiative Land for Wildlife is officially transitioning to Trust for Nature.

Victoria’s iconic voluntary wildlife conservation initiative Land for Wildlife is officially transitioning to Trust for Nature.

The Victorian Government is supporting private landowners across the state who are fighting native species extinction, with the historic transformation of one of the state’s oldest private land conservation programs.

An investment of $800,000 over four years from the Victorian Government will go to Trust for Nature to deliver the government’s flagship voluntary wildlife conservation program, Land for Wildlife.

Trust for Nature will provide stronger conservation support and advice to over 5,000 private landholders and managers who voluntarily restore wildlife habitat on their properties through Land for Wildlife.
Private landholders all over Victoria are doing wonderful things for nature,” says Corinne Proske, CEO of Trust for Nature.
“Trust for Nature is honoured and excited to support more Victorians to protect habitat on their properties through the iconic Land for Wildlife program.”
Land for Wildlife is a beloved, voluntary program founded in the 1980s encouraging more Victorians to engage and value the nature in their own backyard, helping ensure Victoria’s unique landscapes are protected for the future.

Land for Wildlife members will now get access to Trust for Nature expertise and educational resources to help them identify, protect and enhance habitat for native plants and animals on their properties.

“Today marks an important day for land conservation in Victoria, with Trust for Nature to deliver the Land for Wildlife program and expand its role as a guiding force in private land protection,” said Victoria’s Minister for Environment, Steve Dimopoulos.

Trust for Nature is a leader in private land conservation partnerships in Victoria, working in partnership with over 1,500 private landholders to permanently protect over 119,000 hectares of ecologically significant habitat on private land in Victoria.

Trust for Nature will enhance the Land for Wildlife program by leveraging its philanthropic partnerships and increasing pathways for Land for Wildlife private landowners to consider the option of permanently protecting their land forever, through conservation covenant agreements.

“Protecting and enhancing habitat on private land is vital to safeguard nature – now and for future generations,” says Corinne.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to engage with landholders who have committed to care for native habitats on their properties, and look forward to inspiring more landholders to do the same.”
