'Two Mile Creek': secluded bushland in the foothills of the Strathbogie Ranges
“This off-grid property would suit people who have an ethic of bushcare/revegetation & living lightly on the earth. The entire property (around 8.7 ha) is protected by the Covenant with a Domestic Area of 0.6 5ha. I came here 30 odd years ago at age 51. There was no infrastructure on the property which had been badly logged by a local timber miller leaving only small areas of habitat trees in difficult to log areas. However, it was north facing, perfect for a home and garden, and had a gully which would be great for dam building, running west to east down to the seasonal creek. Later when I learnt about Trust for Nature, I had a covenant placed over the property, as I was determined the appalling clearing must never happen again.
The property is regenerating slowly but surely, with succession vegetation like Bracken, Acacia dealbata & Cassinia species gradually giving way to Eucalypts and grasses as well as some herbs and forbs. There are still some rough areas but over time, with some help, these will also return to the original valley grassy forest.
Wildlife living here includes wombats, eastern grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies, brushtail & ringtail possums, antechinus, echidnas and various reptiles to name a few.
The property is run by a 3-4 kW solar system and has compost toilets, 2 sheds, 3 x 22,700 litre (5000 gal) water tanks & 2 x 7570 litre (2000 gal) water tanks (house water), large in-ground water storage, approx. 252,000 litres (back up garden water), two dams, Satellite internet. Mobile coverage is through Wi-Fi calling (or a walk up the track). Quiet secluded & private valley, all access is by gravel roads. Surrounded by private bush, crown land & on the edge of the local state forest.
Plant and bird lists are available and a recent management plan for the covenant has been produced.”
