Annual Report 2021-2022

In 2022 we celebrated a major milestone for conservation in Victoria. It was 50 years since Trust for Nature was established, with a bold vision of conserving habitat for future generations and a set of pragmatic tools that deliver meaningful conservation in a state dominated by private land.

In 2021-22, Trust for Nature protected an additional 2,357 ha, establishing 40 more covenants. Private land conservation is a methodical, pragmatic answer to the challenges our native species and their habitats face, and its value continues to be recognised. The 2022 State of the Environment Report released by the Australian Government underlined the important
role private land conservation plays, acknowledging that private land under protection has increased in the last five years. In the absence of increases in public land protection, the work private landholders are doing to protect species is critical.

Trust for Nature whole-heartedly thanks all who support and invest in our work to enable us to make the significant contribution to protecting and sustaining Victoria’s biodiversity which has been our privilege to deliver for 50 years. These achievements would not be possible without our supporters and partners, including our loyal volunteers, First Peoples, and conservation groups. At the heart of everything we do are our covenantors.
