Annual Report 2024-2025

Trust for Nature is proud to present our Annual Report for 2024-2025. Inside the report is a snapshot into some of the many achievements of the organisation over the past year.

This year has been one of ongoing change and continued regeneration for Trust for Nature as we close out our 2021–25 Strategic Plan and prepare for the next phase.

In 2024-25, we protected 2,706 ha of habitat on private land forever. Conservation covenants, which contribute to the National Reserve System, have contributed 44% of the new protected areas in Victoria (between 2022-24). A quarter of all covenants through Trust for Nature are in areas where less than 10% has been conserved, such as the Victorian Riverina and Victorian Volcanic Plain. Covenants on private land are vital for meeting the global conservation target to protect 30% of the world’s land area by 2030.

People are at the centre of what we do. Supporting landholders to manage habitat on their properties is key to ensuring the health of ecosystems. We are increasing focus on our Stewardship Program, and in 2024-25 made a record 1,205 engagements with landholders, whether visiting properties, providing management advice, or connecting people over their shared love of nature.

Similarly, we invested in a dedicated reserves team to manage Trust for Nature’s 40+ conservation reserves, and work with the dedicated volunteers who care so much for these precious places.

We work together with First Peoples and Traditional Owners, we value their deep cultural knowledge and their role as caretakers for Country. We have continued to support First Peoples’ aspirations and connection to Country, whether through cultural burns on our reserves, or facilitating the seventh cohort of the Warreen Beek Rangers program.

We are grateful to our generous supporters and their contributions through our fundraising appeals, regular donations, gifts of land and bequests. We look forward to continuing to work with our supporters to build a future where people and nature thrive together.
