Laurie Macmillan and David Wakefield generously bequested their property to Trust for Nature. Click to read more about their story.

leave a legacy

Since Trust for Nature began in 1972, we have been gifted many properties around the state.

If you are wondering how you can best protect your property when you are no longer around to look after it, you might consider donating it to Trust for Nature.

Donating land to Trust for Nature enables you to leave a lasting legacy for Victoria’s environment, it also gives you peace of mind that the land will be legally protected forever. By generously gifting land to us, you are increasing the amount of protected area in Victoria, through one of two ways.

If the land already has a conservation covenant on it, we will sell it to a new owner and support them to continue looking after its plants and animals. The proceeds from the sale are used to buy more land in Victoria through our Revolving Fund program.

If the property doesn’t have a conservation covenant on it, we will sell it through the Revolving Fund to a new owner who agrees to put a covenant on it. This is part of the condition of sale.

Either way, you are ensuring you are contributing greatly to protecting Victoria’s native plants and animals by providing more forever homes.

Trust for Nature has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, so property gifts might also be tax deductible. Seek financial advice to understand if this applies to your situation.

Rudy always wanted our property to go to someone who would look after it like we had. I think this is a wonderful way of making sure that happens.

Shirley Anders, who donated 18.5ha to Trust for Nature. Read her story here.
